Frequently Asked Questions
A home warranty covers major systems and appliances that malfunction or break from normal wear and tear. These expensive-to-repair items such as air conditioning and heating units, plumbing, electrical wiring, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, and garage door openers age over time, and repairs are inevitable. A home warranty offers protection from these repairs.
Homeowner's insurance is often included in your mortgage and covers loss from incidents like fire, storms and vandalism. A home warranty covers major systems and appliances within your home from breakdowns caused by normal wear and tear. The two are complementary and do not overlap coverage.
When a covered item breaks down, homeowners simply log their service requests online or call our toll-free number 24 hours a day. Requests are immediately dispatched to an approved and insured contractor in the area. The contractor will contact the homeowner to set up an appointment, or the homeowner may call them directly to expedite the process. When the contractor arrives at the home, the homeowner pays a low service fee (varies by state). The contractor makes the covered repairs and bills HBW for all of the work. The homeowner owes nothing more.
